A very important part of ensuring that your home remains comfortable year-round is maintaining your air conditioning system. However, you might not realize all that you need to do to ensure that it stays in good operating condition. The following tips will help you do just that.
Cleaning the Exterior AC Unit
One important part of maintaining your air conditioning system is to clean the outside condenser unit. You’ll need to make sure that you turn the power off to the unit before you do this. You’ll want to make sure that you remove any leaves and debris from the unit, and then wash it with water and a mild detergent.
Lubricate AC Motor
You’ll need to lubricate the motor of the exterior unit with oil to ensure that it stays operating correctly.
Replace the AC Air Filter
Unless you have a permanent AC filter, you’ll need to change it every three months or so. Permanent filters need to be cleaned on the same basis. Make sure you replace your filter with a quality HEPA filter so you can avoid the problems that come from using inferior products.
Check the Drain Line
One of the more important components of your central air conditioning system is the drain line. This is responsible for removing condensation buildup from your indoor unit and draining it outside. Over time, your drain line can become blocked with mold and debris, and it needs to be cleaned at least once per year (twice is better).
These are just a few of the things you’ll need to do in order to maintain your central air conditioning system. If you don’t feel that you’re up to a few of these challenges, consider enrolling in an annual maintenance plan with an experienced Clearwater AC service company, like Andy’s Air Inc.
