Reduce Your Summer AC Bill

Clearwater AC RepairThe summer months are the time for cookouts and spending time with family. However, for most people, those months also see the highest electric bills of the year. The most common reason for this is the increased use of electricity due to running the air conditioner. If you’ve been hit by high power bills from AC use, here are some important tips to help you cut that bill down to size.

1. Adjust Your Thermostat
While it might not seem like it would, adjusting your thermostat up just two degrees during the summer months can have a dramatic effect on your power consumption. For instance, if you keep your thermostat at 70, bump it up to 72. Chances are you won’t really notice the temperature difference, but your AC will run less and your electricity consumption will drop.

2. Change Your Filter
If it’s been a few months since you changed your AC filter, take a look at it. Chances are good it’s dirty and clogged with dirt, pollen and other debris. A blocked AC filter can actually cause your system to work harder in order to pump air through your ductwork. Change that filter and you might be surprised at how much money you save.

3. Cook Less
Since it’s summertime, why not fire up that grill and give the oven a break? Using heat-producing appliances like your stovetop and oven force your AC system to work overtime in order to keep the house at your preferred temperature.

These are just a handful of the many ways that you can take action and start cutting down on your AC-induced power consumption. There’s no reason that you have to dread the summer months because of high power bills. A few simple steps can help you save quite a bit of money.
